Summary of Role
The Meat Category Manager’s primary purpose is to assist and lead when appropriate in the development, management and positioning of the Organic Meat Company’s portfolio of products. The new position of Meat Category Manager will take the lead on marketing analysis, strategies including keeping abreast of meat trends and issues. The Meat Category Manager will team with sales in integrating marketing and sales strategies for effective implementation and will team with operations and procurement to assure that marketing strategies are feasible and will achieve overall Organic Meat Company goals. This person MUST be a driver and be very persistent to get attention to this growing company and brand within larger dairy focused organization. This is a unique opportunity to help take a small growing company within a larger established organization to new heights. There is full senior level support for this initiative and it needs someone who can dream big about what is possible and take the initiative to make it happen! As this is the first dedicated marketing role for the Organic Meat Company, this person will have the opportunity to shape the role of marketing in this growing company and potentially take a lead role in building the department as the company grows.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Product Management Oversight: responsible for partnering with the Organic Meat Company team in planning, managing, and coordinating the product portfolio through all facets of marketing, including product development, pricing, promotion, and positioning; creating and managing marketing programs and business plans to achieve revenue, profit, and market share goals.
o Accountable for overall product portfolio direction, key decisions, product budget (and sometimes even the complete product P&L), ensuring that final product meets specifications, and evangelizing product to internal and external stakeholders. Define and plan product lines and product enhancements.
o Identify New Product opportunities; lead the New Product development process by developing new products that are innovative, consumer/customer-driven and profitable; direct and integrate the new product functions of Product Design, Package Design, Sales Planning, Procurement, P&L, Go-to-Market Strategy (including Promotional Consumer and Trade programs).
o Collaborate with Marketing Services team to develop and implement high impact, innovative, effective Consumer Marketing programs for meat customers to increase consumer buy rates and drive consumer trial.
o Collaborate with Sales team to develop and implement high impact, innovative, effective Trade Marketing programs for our consumers to support distribution expansion and increase consumer trials and buy rates.
• Manage all marketing functions pertaining to assigned Product portfolios, including promotion, research, packaging, promotion, analysis, and P&L.
• Contribute to development of annual brand plan and long-term strategic plan with specific focus on objectives, strategies, and tactics for the dairy and juice products groups.
• Conduct brand, segment and category analysis to evaluate performance against business objectives, identify competitive threats, and highlight product strengths/weaknesses.
• Assist in development of Organic Prairie brand strategies across all functions, including advertising, research and consumer promotions.
• Develop high impact, out-of-the-box, effective consumer promotions to build awareness, generate trial, and drive volume/distribution. Conduct post-promotion analysis to quantify and evaluate effectiveness.
• Identify volume opportunities and implement product initiatives to drive volume and share.
• Direct cross-functional internal teams (Operations, Sales, Marketing Services, R&D/QA) to develop and implement product strategy/initiatives/objectives.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Minimum 5 years of progressive meat or frozen entrée management/marketing experience in branded consumer products company.
• Organic meat industry experience a plus but not required.
• Must have interest in, knowledge of, and/or live organic lifestyle.
• Experience with bringing Ready To Eat products to market a plus
• Experience leading or participating in the innovation process a plus
• Knowledge of consumer research techniques a plus
• Strong project & process management skills.
• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to interact with all levels of management, co-workers and clients.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Syndicated Data experience including: SPINS, IRI, Spectra Data.
• Expertise in setting Product objectives and strategies while managing and implementing tactics and tracking business performance.
• Must be able to work cross-functionally with marketing team members and other departments including Organic Valley marketing staff.
• Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office.
