Overview:
The Meat Technical Category Manager is responsible for providing deep technical expertise across different processed meat categories ranging from poultry, beef, pork to seafood. Deliverables include productivity savings, new meat ingredient development as well as quality improvement activities. In order to be successful against these deliverables, knowledge of labeling regulations and meat safety is a plus. Industry knowledge enhances success as a source of new ideas, efficient project commercialization and delivery against cost targets.

The meat team is organized as a centralized function and has the accountability of delivering opportunities across the varied business divisions that use meat.

Accountabilities:
• Work with all internal divisions with meat components.
• Ensure business divisions are updated on project status and to ensure support of new technology ideas.
• Productivity and new technology work for new products, etc
• Drive cross-functional identification and prioritization of best current projects, identify specifications, and enable divisions to be successful
• Translate opportunities into a strategic vision.
• Independently lead projects.
• Consulting with Quality and Sourcing organizations.
Qualification Education: MS or PhD in Meat Science or Meat Technology, MS/PhD in Food Science with Minor in Meat

Related Experience: 5 years minimum in meat industry (meat manufacturer or a company that sells processed meat containing products)

• Good communication skills
• Strong influencing skills

• Project management skills
• Strong collaboration and leadership skills to facilitate working with cross-functional teams.
• Industrial connections - New technology ideas are developed internally as well as identified through external connections
• Knowledge of meat safety requirements and meat regulations
• Fundamental understanding of market impact on meat prices/buying strategy
• Retail foods exposure
• International experience a plus
