Cranswick said the move would "further strengthen its asset base".
In addition to the acquisition of the Barnsley property, Cranswick said it had set up a new abattoir at its pork processing site and extended the Lazenby sausage facility in Hull.
Work was also commissioned at the company's air-dried bacon site at Sherburn-in-Elmet, near Leeds.
In a statement to the Stock Exchange hailing a "positive trading performance", Cranswick said it had increased its underlying like-for-like sales by 5 per cent during the last three months of 2010.
