Cinderford gets new abattoir

The South West is set to benefit from a £6.5m abattoir, meat processing and packaging plant.

Cinderford-based Ensors will close its two existing premises on Valley Road to move to a single site on an industrial park in Forest Vale Road.

The move will create about 20 new full-time jobs over the next three years. It will also provide the South West with its only facility for farmers selling cows for slaughter.

Steve Leyman, managing director of Ensors, said: “We are delighted that the expansion is going ahead as it means we can not only increase our capacity but offer more services.”

Ensors has received a £1.9m grant from the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) to help the move.

The acquisition and development of the existing abattoir site has been identified for regeneration by the Cinderford Regeneration Board and Forest of Dean District Council.

Construction work on the development will start this month and be completed by the end of the year.
